Earth. It was once the name of a planet, now it is the name of the universe. Within this universe resided Logan Ex. A commonplace man of uncommon attributes. His thirst for influence was unquenchable. A man driven to end his common status. Such was his ambition that he left the safety and confines of his clan in search of power. Long, was his quest. Centuries. His attainment of power did not end with what was easily found; he scoured the worlds and realms for that which was hidden. Whispers of terrors long forgotten. Ancient artifacts from obscure individuals and questionable practitioners. He did not rest until he’d taken all the universe had to offer. And still he was unsated.
With the powers he owned, he created even greater abilities for himself. Abilities of hideous effect. Horrors never before seen in creation. This was bequeathed to his children, and his children’s children, and their children’s children. The lineage of Logan was vast, their reach far. Their strength and power devastating beyond the capability of any word to express. Weaned on their father’s hunger for subjugation and power, bred on his insatiable ambition, they soon overran the universe. They, too, had a thirst that could not be slaked. Their greed was a ravening beast unto itself. Logan’s sons and daughters had armies of their own. Together, they conquered the multiverse and. Thus did Logan’s progeny crown him Emperor of all.
For millenia did the multiverse of Earth battle Emperor Logan’s legions, fighting his conquest and failing. Battles, followed by skirmishes, followed by wars. The violence was unending. His line would not be denied. They sought dominion over all, and few had the power to resist their magic. Their threat was unparalleled. In his quest to unite all worlds under his banner, Logan and his children had the potential to destroy existence itself, if left unchecked.
A stand had to be made.
Those universes that yet enjoyed freedom came together. The Anti-Imperial Coalition was formed. A counterstrike was launched in a bid to reclaim Earth. The attempt was desperate, but not without hope. After centuries of using their powers heedless of cost, the bill had come due: The strength of Logan’s lineage began to wane. His children’s armies diminished. Those that remained were yet powerful, but the Anti-Imperial Coalition outnumbered them a thousand to one. The Obsidian, champion warriors of the Anti-Imperial Coalition, stood the strongest opposition to the powers of Logan’s line. The battle for freedom was fierce. Such was its scale and length that long before it was over the universes were broken, Logan himself long dead.
His children were not without sense: defeat was plain. In a desperate attempt to save their empire, Logan’s son Zero created a world deep within the ruins of the broken universe as sanctuary for their people. Logan’s firstborn, Medalson, hid the world with magic, but also infused it with magic. Logan’s daughter Katrina had other gifts. Sacrificing herself, she poured her blood magic into the world.
They called this new world Ex World, honoring the surname of their Imperial family. Here, the surviving members of their once-illustrious lineage took refuge. The elders, women, and children. Humans and Wolves, the birth people of the Emperor. A fresh start was made. They developed industry, cities, and trading hubs, all in the name of rebuilding the empire in a different image. Of Logan’s children, none lived.
Generations passed. Although none from Logan’s direct descendants survived the war, the remaining generals split up the main continent on Ex World and named it Tumac, after the royal advisor. A man who was their people’s champion. The Wolves isolated themselves to the North, marking this territory as their kingdom. The Humans settled to the West. Other creatures claimed the East. Katrina’s blood, residing in the East, turned these creatures into Vampires.
The South was never explored. A dangerous power lurked there. Some even said it was the invincible power of the Emperor himself. Scholars foretold that whomsoever ventured to the isles of the South and discovered the power of the Emperor buried deep within the land, that one would inherit his immense power. But such a prize had a cost. Conditions that must be met. Atrocities too unspeakable to face dwelled in the Southern Isles.
Those who were old enough yet carried scars from the devastating war. Having tasted peace, they shunned the prophecy. Contentious though relations between the races of Human, Wolves, and Vampires were, they were united in their avoidance of anything related to the power of Logan Ex. They would sooner embrace death than touch the insidious abilities of their ancestor, lest their fragile peace be brought to ruin.
Yet peace did not last.
The Obsidian race, that most vicious and savage of the Anti-Imperial Coalition, discovered their planet. Although shielded from powerful magic, the inhabitants of Ex World knew it was only a matter of time before the Obsidians broke through. Their only salvation lay in claiming their greatest fear…the Imperial power hidden in their world. To that end, each race gathered its heroes and sent them on a noble expedition to the Southern Isles. The quest: to retrieve the power of the Emperor and defend Ex World, the home left to them by their royal ancestors.
